What Is CHAS?

The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) enables all Singapore Citizens, including Pioneer Generation (PG) and Merdeka Generation (MG) cardholders, to receive subsidies for medical and/or dental care at participating General Practitioner (GP) and dental clinics.

CHAS Subsidies in a Nutshell

Merdeka Generation Package

Introduced in 2019 to support the aspirations of MG seniors in their silver years by helping them to stay active and healthy and providing them better peace of mind over future healthcare costs. This scheme is for Singapore citizens who 1) were born from 1 Jan 1950 to 31 Dec 1959, and who became Singapore citizens on or before 31 Dec 1996, or 2) were born on or before 31 Dec 1949, became Singapore citizens on or before 31 Dec 1996, and do not receive the Pioneer Generation Package.

Pioneer Generation Package

Introduced in 2014 and includes initiatives aimed at making healthcare affordable for our pioneer generation for life. This scheme is for Singapore citizens who were born on or before 31 Dec 1949 and obtained Singapore citizenship on or before 31 Dec 1986.

CHAS Subsidies

Apart from the Merdeka and Pioneer Generation packages, CHAS subsidies are also available for all Singaporeans, with the colour of the CHAS card indicating the subsidy tier that cardholders are entitled to. The tiers are CHAS Blue, Orange or Green. CHAS dental subsidies will not be applicable for CHAS Green card holders. As some dental treatments may require co-payment, please check with your dentist on the fees you need to pay before proceeding with the treatment.

Eligibility Criteria

All Singapore Citizens are eligible for CHAS. The CHAS benefits are tiered according to the household monthly income per person or the Annual Value (AV) of the individual’s home.
